Kay McFarland

Kansas Supreme Court Chief Justice Kay McFarland lived a remarkable life as a trail-blazer in the legal profession and a highly respected member of the high court and the Topeka community. Kay loved to travel and journeyed to Africa on safari with Gary K. Clarke, where she enhanced her passion for wildlife. Through Gary, she also developed an affection for the Topeka Zoo, where she envisioned a tranquil Japanese Garden within the Zoo. Toward that vision, Kay generously gifted the zoo with $4.4 million for the project and established a permanent endowment fund to maintain the garden in perpetuity. The Friends of the Topeka Zoo is committed to raising $2.25 million to finalize construction.
